Nai Nai (Grandmother Sun)

Played by Kathie Young

Kathie Young was 12 when she and her family became the first Korean family to immigrate to Toronto. After graduating from high school she studied at Parsons School of Design in NYC. After Parsons she worked as a graphic designer for publications such as Interview, Essence and Ms Magazine, as well as Lord and Taylor, Johnson and Johnson and Crossroad Theater.  Between 1988-1992 Kathie represented several well-known artists to corporate buyers while owner and operator of the Drawing Room Gallery.

In 1992 Kathie and her husband created the Phoenix Arts Center, Inc, a non-profit arts organization that curated art exhibits and offered art classes, lectures and workshops for people of all ages. Shortly after Kathie’s two children enrolled in college in 2002, Kathie and her husband moved back to Toronto where she continued to paint and teach. However, Kathie’s growing interest in the Toronto film community eventually led her to explore the dramatic arts.

Now, after 2 years of auditions, commercial work and small parts in film, Kathie is fortunate to play Nai Nai in Rising Suns. Kathie is delighted and thrilled to be amongst a talented and fantastic cast.
